What is to be found in this Wiki?
This Wiki now contains at least 157 articles. The idea of Cybis Wiki is to gather any kind of useful information related to dendrochronology and to help us develop as dendrochronologists! Therefore this Wiki will also include material which would not fit in for instance Wikipedia because of the Wikipedia principles of 'Notability and of No original research. I.e Cybis Wiki is a place where you may publish also measurement data as well as articles about methods invented by yourself and results of dendrochronological investigations. Though still it has to be possible to verify statements, but necessarily not only by referring to reliable published texts, but also by reference to common practice and experience developed among dendrochronologists.
Some of the categories which may containing some of the most useful information so far, are probably:
- "Category:Tree ring data" contains descriptions of commonly available reference data, mainly such with relevance for Scandinavia. Also many pieces of original measurement data are found.
- In "Category:Methods", some of the most basic things in dendrochronological practice are described.
- "Category:Software" and "Dendro data format" is also informative.
One of the greatest features with the wiki technology is the possibility to cooperate in writing useful texts, but maybe also to build useful chronologies. As dendrochronologists we sometimes measure a piece of wood, or a number of samples, of potentially great value, but originating from an area or a timespan in which we do not have enough material ourselves. Let us gather such stuff on the wiki, and maybe somebody else will find another piece, and sooner or later we may be able to construct new collections and chronologies out of those single series, useful for all of us.
