A method to prevent collapse of subfossil wood, especially artifacts which contains both wood and metal, is described by the Danish National Museum[1] Using cellosolve[2] and petrol[3]. First the water is replaced in a heated bath of Cellosolve. The Cellosolve than is replaced by Petrol, which can evaporate from the wood without collapse.
