Dehydration with organic solvents

A method to prevent collapse of waterlogged wood, especially artifacts which contains both wood and metal, is described by the Danish National Museum Using cellosolve and petrol. First the water is replaced in a heated bath of Cellosolve. The Cellosolve than is replaced by Petrol, which can evaporate from the wood without collapse.
