.datw
.datw format or "Belfast Apple format" is used for saving a single ring width sequence. The format can be read by CDendro.
All the data released in 2010 by Queens University Belfast is stored in this format in some 9000 files but then with the file name extension ".txt".
In the case of the East Anglia Incident chronology files, the files were stored with the file name extension ".dat"
A typical file starts like this:
FLAG FEN B1614 93 564 560 461 288 240 264
Line 1: Site identity
Line 2: Sample identity
Line 3: Number of ring widths
Line 4: The width of the oldest ring.
The last ring width line tells the width of the youngest ring.
A last line may contain a comment like this:
179 229 198 139 COMMENT - JN 25-AUG-90
Note: From code within CDendro it seems that there exist files where the two first site and sample identity lines are missing!
