Mersea chronology (AD 445-661) - England
Posted: 11 Jan 2012, 10:02
Hi to all and happy new year!
While searching the web for roman pines chronologies (impossible!), I quickly retrieved an oak chronology from Crummy P., Hillam J., Crossan C. 1982, Mersea Island: the Anglo-Saxon causeway, in Essex Archaeology and History, 14, pp. 77-86 (http://cat.essex.ac.uk/reports/EAS-report-0023.pdf).
Since the forum does not allow me to attach files, I copy and paste it below as text.
The table on page 85 has a .crn similar fashion, and I just (semi-automatically) adapted it in a text editor. It contains indices (three samples from two stems) of a somewhat famous chronology from Mersea Island, that is quoted and partially published several times (see, for example, Hillam J. 1981, An English tree ring chronology, in Medieval Archaeology 25, pp. 31-44 - http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/adsdata ... 31_044.pdf ) but this is the only case in which it is complete.
Probably Lars Ake already included it in some of English collections during his work about Oak European chronology (http://www.cybis.se/belfast/index.php) but I don’t remember seeing it as “individual series”. Anyway, if I missed it, please forgive this post.
Some other late roman/early medieval chronologies are published too in the two paper quoted above, as ring width measurements diagrams, but they are incomplete.
Best regards,
Ale
